Special profiles

Saarstahl Rail also produces other types of so-called “special” rails:

  • Guard rails
  • Tracks
  • T52 conductor rails

Guard rails

3

Guard rails are primarily used in track switches and in some very tight curves. This type of rail is a specific profile that is positioned parallel to the existing rails on the track. Its role is to guide and properly maintain rolling stock as it passes through the track switch or curve, preventing incidents such as derailments.

The steel grade used is primarily R260, but it can also be produced in specific harder grades to reduce wear.

Rail tracks (running rails)

1

Tracks are H-shaped profiles with tight tolerances. They are used in rubber-tire metro systems. The grades used are S235JR and S235J0 (according to EN 10025).

T52 rails (for metro systems)

2

These are conductor rails designed to supply power to the trains. The grades used are CO2-reduced grades to ensure low electrical resistivity.
