Minister Delegate for Industry visits Saarstahl Rail
Official resumption ceremony
Today, Saarstahl’s takeover of the rail factory was officially celebrated at a small ceremony in Hayange.
Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister Delegate for Industry to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial Recovery of the European Union, as well as the President of the Grand-Est Region, Jean Rottner, and numerous representatives of the authorities, municipalities and the region were present in Hayange, as were the members of the Saarstahl Board of Directors, namely Dr. Karl-Ulrich Köhler, Dr. Klaus Richter and Markus Lauer, as well as representatives of the management and unions of Saarstahl Rail.
In his welcoming speech in French, Saarstahl’s Chairman of the Board of Management, Dr. Karl-Ulrich Köhler, thanked all stakeholders for their support during the takeover process of Saarstahl Rail and Saarstahl Ascoval. He particularly thanked Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher and Minister of Economic Affairs Bruno Le Maire, both of whom were particularly involved in ensuring the sustainability of the two plants.
He welcomed both companies and their employees to the Saarstahl family. In addition, Dr. Köhler explained the importance of the plants in the context of the Group’s strategy regarding the ecological transition with the deployment of sustainable rail infrastructure solutions and regarding the production of green steel in the electric sector. This makes it possible to produce high-quality steel with a neutral CO2 balance.
During a tour of the factory, the guides informed the guests about the tools used to produce quality rails intended, for example, for the SNCF and on which the TGV V150 set a world railway record of a speed of 574.8 km/h.
